Can you give advice on plumbing maintenance and how to avoid common plumbing problems?

  • Regular plumbing maintenance is important to keep your plumbing system working efficiently and to avoid costly repairs. Here are some tips on plumbing maintenance and how to avoid common plumbing problems:
    • Fix leaks promptly: Even small leaks can cause damage over time, so it's important to fix them as soon as they're discovered. This can also help to prevent more serious problems from developing.
    • Use drain strainers: Install strainers in all of your drains to prevent hair, soap scum, and other debris from clogging your pipes.
    • Don't pour grease down the drain: Grease can solidify in your pipes, causing blockages that can be difficult to remove.
    • Don't flush anything other than toilet paper: Flushing items like paper towels, wet wipes, or feminine hygiene products can cause clogs in your pipes.
    • Maintain your water heater: Regularly flushing your water heater can help to prevent sediment buildup, which can reduce its efficiency and cause damage over time.
    • Insulate pipes: Insulating your pipes can help to prevent them from freezing during cold weather, which can cause them to burst and cause water damage.
    • Test your sump pump: If you have a sump pump, test it regularly to make sure it's working properly.
    • Keep an eye on your water bill: A sudden increase in your water bill can be a sign of a leak or other plumbing problem.
    • Know where your shut-off valves are: Make sure you know where your shut-off valves are in case of an emergency.

By following these tips and practicing regular plumbing maintenance, you can help to prevent common plumbing problems and keep your plumbing system working efficiently. Additionally, it's always a good idea to have a professional plumber inspect your plumbing system regularly to identify and address any potential issues before they become more serious problems.

Factors that can affect the timeline for a plumbing job include:

  1. The type of job: Different plumbing tasks require varying amounts of time to complete. For example, a simple drain cleaning may take only a few hours, while a major bathroom renovation could take several days or more.
  2. The size of the project: Larger projects will typically take longer to complete than smaller ones.

Which water heaters qualify for a tax credit?

Natural gas, oil and propane water heaters require an annual fuel utilization efficiency of at least 95% to qualify for a tax credit. Meanwhile, electric heaters need to have a minimum 2.2 uniform energy factor (UEF). If you plan on getting a tax credit for your water heater, make sure you have a copy of the manufacturer's certification statement.

Frozen Pipe services

When it gets cold your pipes start freezing, that can cause a major issue. If you think you have frozen pipes DO NOT wait call us immediately!

If I have a major water leak in my home what should I do?

First, turn your water supply off at the main shut off valve. As a homeowner it's important to know where this is located and educate your family members as well. Second always contact a professional plumber during these emergencies. And don't touch any wet electrical fittings- call an Electrician for that.

What's the best way to choose a plumber?

Assuming that the plumbing problem is not an emergency, its always smart to do as much research as possible before choosing a plumber. Check to make sure the plumber is licensed in your local area or state. Consult the Better Business Bureau to learn about complaints filed against the plumber or their company, and whether the plumber has a good record handling disputes. Ask the plumber for references. Finally ask for an estimate on the repair job that has caused you to look for a plumber in the first place. Don't be shy about getting a few estimates. The figures are important but so is the reputation of the plumber in your community.

Why do we run out of hot water so quickly?

Depending on the age and type of your water heater there are a couple of reasons you don't have enough hot water:

1. Electric water heaters commonly have two heating elements, one on top, and one on the bottom. Either of these elements can stop working. If the bottom element goes out, only the top portion of the water heater is being heated. If the top goes out there will not be any hot water.

2. There is a reset button that could have been tripped, that is an indicator that something is wrong.

If your water heater is running out of hot water quicker than normal, give us a call and we will get you back in hot water FAST!
